The Pekoe Trail Organization (TPTO), the nonprofit steward of Sri Lanka’s premier long-distance hiking trail, is thrilled to announce a record-setting hike to raise funds and awareness for The Pekoe Trail.
This incredible journey, led by expert guide Ayesh Buddhika and adventurous hiker Michelle Pinkowski, will attempt to complete all 22 stages of the 300km trail in record time, starting December 7th, 2024.
This hike is more than a test of endurance—it’s a call to action for the global hiking community to support the preservation and sustainability of The Pekoe Trail.
As a 300km-long route weaving through Sri Lanka’s breathtaking tea country, The Pekoe Trail is a national tourism gem that connects people to the country’s natural beauty, cultural richness, and community spirit. Maintaining the trail’s accessibility, safety, and impact requires ongoing commitment.
The Pekoe Trail Organisation (TPTO), as a nonprofit organization, operates solely on self-funding, community memberships, and donations. Beyond preserving the trail, TPTO empowers local communities and supports small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) to foster sustainable economic opportunities.
Through this high-profile event, TPTO seeks to inspire adventurers worldwide to contribute to the trail’s preservation and ensure its legacy as a world-class hiking destination.
Ensuring safety, accessibility, and ecological preservation
Empowering TPTO to continue managing and promoting the trail as a top-tier tourism product.
Building capacity for MSMEs and helping local communities harness the benefits of sustainable tourism.
Michelle is an accomplished adventurer who has sought out trails less travelled on four continents, including Mt. Kenya and the Peaks of the Balkans. As a Pekoe Trail Conqueror, she brings unparalleled enthusiasm and determination to this record-breaking challenge.
